To navigate the world on wheels is to know intimately that the angle you are given is never the whole story. Rolling through life from a seated height – or moving with any mobility aid – naturally teaches you to look closer, find hidden beauty, and experience spaces in ways others often rush past. True access isn’t just crossing a threshold; it’s about having the space to pause, feel welcomed, and connect with wonder right from where you sit.

That very personal interplay of viewpoint, memory, and discovery is at the beating heart of ARTIFACTS, a captivating new exhibition by Los Angeles fine art photographer Mark Robert Halper.
Halper’s pieces feel like unlocking a beloved wooden chest filled with childhood treasures. Through a process he calls “Refractive Alchemy” – a technique blending light and optics directly through the lens – he takes humble keepsakes from growing up and invites us to remember the wonder they once brought us. A miniature plastic astronaut, a well-loved toy car, a classic analog camera: these aren’t cold museum pieces. They are warm vessels of living memory, glowing with the stories, laughter, and daydreams of our younger years.

Because many of the prints feature reflective metallic foil backings, these frames shift as you move. A slight tilt of your head or rolling a few inches to the side reveals entirely new depth.
Speaking with Wheely Good Times about the soul behind the collection, Halper shared:
“My work is about seeing artifacts and objects in new and unexpected ways. I can easily see how my work would help others see differently, and I think that effect would be magnified when the object is personalized and carries meaning.”
That transformative spark in ARTIFACTS hits close to home for Wheely Good Times. Halper’s art never demands you to view it from a single, fixed height. Instead, it invites you to bring your own personal history and vantage point into the room. It’s a grounded reminder that experiencing life from a different angle isn’t a compromise – it’s an invitation to see deeper, feel closer, and belong.
